so I have this thing for clocks.

I am just really quite fascinated by them.

Some extravagant & others plain and simple, some old and full of history & others spiffy and modern.  All styles, sizes--oh yes, I especially adore those little pocket watches.

These photos were taken during my summer travels--from Milwaukee to Chicago to Montreal to Quebec to Boston.  I just fell in love with this little time trackers.

Oh! Do not attack me with your watch. A watch is always too fast or too slow. I cannot be dictated to by a watch.  -Jane Austen

And now just a few things I am grateful for today:
time [to complete homework, hopefully]
laughter
friends who are willing to pray for me
stories that I have love/hate relationships with [ahem, Jane Eyre]
a new navy blue cardigan
a birthday list which includes this and this
and of course the fact that my birthday arrives in eight days
Captain Jack Sparrow, always
the fact that Thanksgiving and the associated good food is fast approaching
late night Starbucks runs
there's more to life than books you know.  but not much more.
my brother's sense of humor [most of the time]
the grace of Jesus

What are you fascinated by/thankful for?

  1. I have a fascination with color. As in, I see something and the color combos or the lighting on the colors just makes me die of happiness. And people think that's weird, because I'm looking at the color more than the subject--but I think it's wonderful.

Today, I'm thankful for you, your blog, tea, fuzzy sweaters, friends who understand me, forgiveness when I'm moody, purple earrings, scarfs, fonts of all kinds, the faithfulness of God, hugs, and the boldness of Christ to barge into my life exactly when I need him to.

  2. Oh dear, I'm thinking of reading Jane Eyre. I read the first few pages and I think I have a love/hate relationship with it, too. Why do you love it, and why do you hate it? :P

Also, I love clocks too. The passage of time is so fascinating.

And lastly, I love your watermark. There's something about it that's subtle and unobtrusive, yet clearly states that this photo belongs to you. Love it. ♥

  3. if you enjoy clocks.....you need to see my dad's collection!!! We have Westminster Abby chiming clocks in every room....and he has a huge selection of repeter and antique pocket watches, some that we bought in our trip to Italy!

I have learned to love the sound of our ticking washington banjo clock and our coo-coo clock.....it sounds like, home...

  6. :) This makes me happy. I don't love clocks as much as you do, but I love seeing people "into" random objects. For me, its owls. Just sayin'
But taking photographs of clocks wherever you go sure is an interesting way to map your journeys! Oh, and clock + owl = http://www.etsy.com/listing/82182513/hoot-owl-pocket-watch-locket-necklace?

I'm super thankful for this gorgeous day we are having here in Iowa. Probably the last nice day before we plunge into the frozen waste land of winter.

  11. A couple of observations, as usual.
    1. Clocks are excellent things that hold a special place somewhere in my mind.
    2. Why the Jane Eyre hate/ love relationship? I've read that book, and it was interesting. (Wives locked in closets tend to do that.) But what makes you hate it?
    3. Your brother's sense of humor. (Most of the time)
    4. I've been wanting to get a pocket watch for some time now. It feels so fancy.
(I removed my previous post because I forgot this)

  13. Sky--oh, read it. The book is wonderful, truly, and I really do love it. It's just one of those stories where you want to shake certain characters and tell them what for while watching a movie adaption. ;)
    And there Isaac^...that's why.
Megan--I use a Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd, though I'm looking into buying myself a new camera soon.

  15. I once found an old pocket watch in the garden at my parents' house. I spent ages trying to clean it up because I would have loved to have known who it belonged to.
