the best things happen while you're dancing

My title comes from an old song, the origin of which I cannot remember.  I think it's in an oldie film, but I can't remember that either and I'm much to lazy to look it up.  It's an epic song--one you can dance swing, polka, foxtrot, tango, and waltz to--all in the same song.  Yup, love it.

Have I ever really told you all about the Celtic Ball?  I don't recall that I have.  I've mentioned it in passing, posted a photo now and again.  But here we are.  The Celtic Ball is a dance for people age--oh, 14 to 20.  We do square-ish dancing, but it's all set to Celtic music (there's even a legit bagpipe player) and it's much more formal.

Needless to say, we always have girlfriends over to get ready with and then ride with.  It makes a good thing just that much better.  And the Christmas Ball is always the best.

the preparation process...it's intense you know

Sadly, there are not many pictures from the night, 1) because my camera died, 2) because there's horrible lighting in there so I kinda gave up, and 3) I was dancing most of the night, of course, so I didn't have time for photos.

I love dancing.  love love love it.  I have friends that don't dance/don't like to dance, and I honestly just don't get it.  (I mean, it's not as if I can dance...I'm so white & have no moves whatsoever...but I do it anyway.)  It's such a happy thing.  The Celtic Ball is always one of the highlights of my year.

Yeah, the Celtic Ball is one of my happy places.

What about you?  Can you/do you dance?

ps--oh!  and I straightened my hair, as you can see!  thoughts?  I think it makes me look older.  hmm I like it, but you see I'm not nearly motivated enough to take the time to do it often.  ;)

  3. Slight correction here. Much of the music at the Celtic Ball felt a lot less Celtic, and a lot more polka-ish. That was the thing I disliked the most.
I imagine you know that I dance, considering I danced with you. And it's really not up to me to judge whether I can dance or not. I would have to ask somebody.

  4. Jenn, you look really different with straight hair. Is this the first time you've straightened it?

I like to dance (sort of). But I wasn't willing to spend thirty bucks to go to the Celtic Ball.

  8. My goodness...looks like a whole lot of fun. Your hair is cute straightened...but really, curly looks just as adorable! (oh and I totally understand the too-lazy-to-straighten stuff, my hair is about as curly as yours and I almost never straighten all of it...it takes SO long)

    Lovely pics of you gals!

  12. Ok, first thing is first, when i came down here to comment I almost died laughing at "Sweet comments are the best thing since sliced bread. Unkind comments are the worst thing since hamsters." Seriously. That pretty much made my day! :)
And now, what I was actually planning to say in the comments-- It looks like such a fun dance! I've never been to a dance, and though I honestly CAN NOT dance, it looks like a lot of fun! Your hair and dress are absolutely gorgeous!

  14. i like dancing too, not that i am actually any good. and as a naturally curly haired girl myself, i know what you mean when you say it takes a lot of commitment to straighten your hair regularly. my hair is super thick and takes over an hour to straighten. as much as i hate my curls, i am too lazy to commit to straightening them out all the time. your natural hair, however, is bee-oo-ti-ful but it still looks lovely straight too!

  15. I've been reading your blog for a while, but this is the first time I've ever commented... which... makes me feel kind of stalkerish, but, uh, I'm seriously not. LOL!

I am so super jealous of you giiiirrrl! That looks and sounds like so much fun. I wish I could dance! You all look so pretty. :)

  17. What are you TALKING about? You KNOW you can dance Jenn! :P Don't go being all humble. And I love to dance. As you well know. ;)

You looked absolutely lovely at the ball; you know how I adore that dress on you. I think you're right about your straight hair--it does make you look a bit older, but the thing I noticed most was how much LONGER it was! I like it, but I love your curly hair. I wish I had curly hair rather often, so yeah...

You're beautiful and wonderful and in every way an amazing friend. :) Your blog often makes my day, fyi. <3

  19. you have really pretty hair! i like it curly, but i like it straight, too. straight hair makes me look older, too, which is why i like it. {the older i get, the younger people are assuming i am. it doesn't make sense to me, haha.}

i don't even know what it's like not to dance. we were at my cousin's wedding a few weeks ago and two hours into the reception pretty much no one had danced except my cousin with her husband and father, her husband & his mom, and the wedding party. they started some good dance song {i can't remember what it was}, and i told my brother's girlfriend we were gonna go out and dance. so we did, and, well, we've basically decided to take credit for starting the party ;]

  23. 1) dancing is amazing, the end.
    2) your dress is gorgeous.
    3) also the white dress if epic.
    4) your hair is gorgeous straightened, but I like it best natural.
    5) I straightened my hair for the first time in a long time today, incidentally. :)

  24. *gasp* YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT SONG IS FROM!? It's from White Christmas starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye!!!! We watch it every Thanksgiving and have my whole life. :)
You all look LOVELY; I've always wanted to go to a Celtic ball. My older sister did once, and I've nearly died of jealousy several times. :)
(The fact that I've never danced doesn't mean a thing)
